Material Classification

Specification-Grade Recovered Lumber (SRL™) is a standardized material classification for non-structural reclaimed wood. It identifies industrially recovered fibre that has been processed to defined grading, moisture, and traceability standards.

SRL is designed for architectural, commercial, and manufacturing applications where reclaimed wood must perform consistently and be specified with confidence. It is not a cosmetic brand; it is a technical standard.

Status Notice
SRL™ is specification-ready and supply-pending. The material classification and technical standard are published for professional review and adoption planning. Commercial supply at scale will follow infrastructure commissioning and validation milestones.

Scope of Application

Approved Uses

  • Interior & Exterior Finishing: Panelling, flooring, trim, and feature walls.

  • Manufacturing: Laminated panels, furniture components, and millwork.

  • Architectural: Applications requiring defined moisture control and dimensional consistency.

Exclusions (Strictly Prohibited)

  • Structural Load-Bearing: Not approved for framing, trusses, or primary structural support.

  • Engineered Products: Not rated for engineered load calculations.

Technical Framework

SRL is governed by a proprietary standard that establishes:

  • Grading Rules: Visual and dimensional assessment based on intended yield.

  • Moisture Limits: Kiln-drying protocols to ensure equilibrium stability.

  • Traceability: Chain-of-custody maintained at the batch level.

Grade Classifications

  • SRL Premium: Clear face with uniform tone and fine grain. Minimal visible defects; knots are tight and sound. Designed for high-end transparent finishes.

  • SRL Builder: Balanced appearance with visible but sound markings. Permits tight knots and minor colour variation. Optimized for standard commercial millwork.

  • SRL Industrial: Mechanically sound material with unrestricted visual characteristics. Permits staining, surface defects, and filled holes. Suitable for non-structural, appearance-indifferent applications such as painted surfaces, secondary substrates, and concealed non-load-bearing uses.

Traceability & Environmental Data

Each SRL batch is traceable to its recovery region and processing period.

  • Diversion: Prevents organic material from entering anaerobic landfill conditions.

  • Emissions: Avoids harvest-related carbon expenditure.

  • Verification: Third-party validation and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) development are currently in progress.
